Oregon High Desert Grotto

Caving has been a great way to explore some of the last frontiers. I can reasonably say I have walked where no others have (New Passage). I am drawn to the life zones and light transitions found around the entrance section of caves. I tend to look at the beauty of caves from an artistic point of view, although I fully enjoy the vertical drops, odd body contortions and positions needed to crawl along the cave floors, and the companionship of fellow cavers.

I have created a series of DVD’s highlighting each year of the Grotto outings for the past three years, with 2009 on its way soon. These are photo and video recaps put to music of our adventures including interviews and anything from the humorous to serious side of caving.

I am currently working on a project which involves photographing the 100 most unusual or interesting caves of Oregon.

Currently, I am the vice chairman of the OHDG, although I credit Matt with serving countless hours to keep the club functioning. He receives little credit but has donated considerable time and energy to the club.

Besides Caving, I enjoy mountaineering, climbing, photography, woodworking, gardening, music, friends, unusual adventures out of doors, looking for adventures that haven’t been done before. I also love taking long road trips. Ijust returned from a month of living out of the back of the truck with Kara, traveling through the Rockies and the Southwest and returned home with 8,000 pictures. Thank god for Digital!
